Bio

An outspoken and passionate advocate for equity and belonging, Pia has worked in the inclusion, equity, diversity, and belonging space for the better part of the last decade. Having held roles across the private and public sector including at Meridian Energy, Kiwibank, Springload, and most recently WorkSafe as well as consulting as part of the Canary Collective. It’s Pia’s mission to ‘build better business’ – and a better society – by helping organisations make inclusion, kinder cultures, behaviour change, and equity real. Pia has held positions on the establishment Board of the YWCA of Greater Wellington, the advisory board of the Aotearoa Inclusivity Matrix and the Gender Tick, and the co-design think tank to redevelop HRNZ competencies for HR practitioners in Aotearoa. A proud extraverted introvert, outside of work Pia can be found on the beach in Raumati South with her partner and two dogs or knitting endless beanies as unwanted gifts for friends and whānau.

The current landscape of the tech industry is filled with the expectation of learning at speed. Even at the very start of our careers, we all have to walk the line between hard and soft skills.   • overcoming feelings of imposter syndrome – at any level of experience – by using skills that you already have in your UX toolbox
  • encouraging psychological safety and a culture of experimentation within your team and organization
  • how companies can support their employees with holistically with career advancement, mental health, and family support
